After two stalemates against Kitara FC and SC Villa, Vipers SC return to action with renewed urgency as they travel to face Buhimba United Saints at Royal Park Butema on Tuesday, a venue that has recently resembled anything but a professional football pitch.
The fixture arrives under a cloud of growing concern over the state of the Butema surface, which has increasingly taken on the character of untamed grassland rather than a sporting arena.
In Buhimba’s previous outing against Entebbe UPPC, complaints were raised about the absurd length of the grass, conditions more suited to grazing cattle than passing a football.
Despite the agricultural challenges awaiting them, the Venoms have to remain firmly focused on their title charge. Sitting at the summit with a four-point cushion over KCCA FC, Vipers cannot afford to let their momentum stall, no matter how uncooperative the terrain beneath their feet may be.

Still unbeaten, Vipers enter the contest as clear favourites against a struggling Saints side that has failed to win in five consecutive matches. Their most recent setback, a 2-1 defeat to Entebbe UPPC, only deepens their plight as they battle to stay afloat.
The reverse fixture offers little encouragement for the hosts. Vipers thrashed Buhimba 4-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, with Milton Karisa netting a brace, alongside goals from Abubakali Walusimbi and Karim Watambala.
This time, however, the opposition may not just be Buhimba United Saints, but the pitch itself. And while Vipers have shown they can outplay opponents, Tuesday’s test may demand they first conquer nature.
