Uganda’s Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, used the opening of the CAF AFCON-2027 workshop in Kampala to reaffirm government commitment, stressing that resources have already been secured to deliver the tournament.
He reminded delegates that Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are aligned in ensuring AFCON-2027 is historic, noting that CAF’s technical assistance has been vital in shaping preparations.
His remarks come as Uganda has released UShs. 130.4 billion for eight training facilities, with construction set to begin at Hoima, Masindi, Lira University, and Gulu University by the end of April.
Ogwang said, “On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uganda and on my own behalf, I reaffirm our commitment to host AFCON in 2027 in line with the agreement. I assure you that the three governments are committed to providing the resources required to ensure this tournament takes place as scheduled.”
The minister pointed to PAMOJA’s successful hosting of CHAN as proof of capacity, promising AFCON would surpass it.
