World No. 1 Jannik Sinner fought back to beat Benjamin Bonzi 6-7 (6/8), 6-1, 6-4 in the Madrid Open second round, keeping alive his bid for a record fifth straight Masters 1000 crown.
Bonzi grabbed the opening set in a tie-break, but Sinner responded with breaks in the second and third sets to seal victory after two and a half hours. “When you’re not playing your best tennis and win, it’s still a good result,” said the Italian.
With Carlos Alcaraz sidelined, Sinner is the clear favourite in Madrid and at Roland Garros.
Elsewhere, Croatian qualifier Dino Prizmic stunned world No. 6 Ben Shelton, while Lorenzo Musetti defeated Hubert Hurkacz.
