Vipers have a golden opportunity to tighten their grip at the top of the table and take a major stride toward an eighth league crown when they host Entebbe UPPC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday.
Following KCCA’s slip against Calvary in Midigo, the chasing pack, SC Villa and Kitara, are all tied on 51 points, four adrift of the reigning champions who also boast a game in hand. That advantage gives the Venoms a perfect opening to stretch further clear at the summit.
Should Vipers secure victory, they will climb to 58 points, opening up a seven-point lead with six matches currently remaining, which would reduce to five after this fixture. Such a gap at this stage would significantly strengthen their push for an eighth league title.
The Venoms head into the clash in confident mood after easing past Buhimba United Saints 2-0 in their last outing. Entebbe UPPC, meanwhile, sit sixth on 40 points and could move above Police with a win, although they come into the game on the back of a narrow 1-0 loss to KCCA in Bugonga.
The reverse fixture between the two sides saw Vipers edge a 1-0 victory, with Karim Watambala netting the decisive second-half goal. The midfielder already has 10 league goals this campaign.
