FUFA Women’s Elite League debutants Lira City Queens FC climbed to the summit of the Victoria Group after edging Bul Women Football Club 2–1 at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
The visitors struck first in the 17th minute when Bul defender Nakato Fransca inadvertently turned the ball into her own net. The hosts rallied and, just before the interval, Lillian Mugide’s composed finish restored parity to set up a tense second half.
With both sides cautious yet ambitious, the decisive moment arrived in the 70th minute. Lira City Queens captain Sumaya Akanya broke through to slot home the winner, silencing the home crowd and cementing her side’s growing reputation.
Despite late pressure from Bul Women, the Queens held firm to secure all three points. The result lifts them to 15 points from six matches, two clear of Jinja United Women FC, who have a game in hand. Bul Women remain fourth with nine points from five outings.
Looking ahead, Lira City Queens will travel to Mbale to face Highway Ladies FC on Saturday, May 2, while Bul Women prepare to host Ateker Women FC on the same day.
