FIFA is set to ease suspension rules at the 2026 World Cup by wiping yellow cards twice, after the group stage and again following the quarter-finals.
The expanded 48-team format adds an extra round, raising fears that more players could miss semi-finals through bans.

Under the proposal, suspensions would still come after two bookings, but only within two windows: the three group games, or the knockout rounds up to the last eight.
The plan will be discussed at Tuesday’s FIFA Council meeting in Vancouver, with officials arguing the change is fairer than raising the threshold to three cautions.
