Uganda Rugby president Godwin Kayangwe said the union is “poised for greater achievements on, and off the field” following decisions taken at the 2026 Annual General Meeting.
Speaking after the meeting at Hotel Africana, Kayangwe credited members for what he described as active participation and forward-looking decisions that reshaped the union’s leadership and governance structures.
“Today’s outcomes reflect our collective dedication to building a robust, inclusive rugby ecosystem in Uganda. With Fiona Karungi, Byron Oketayot, and Peace Lekuru joining the Executive, we are poised for greater achievements on, and off the field,” Kayangwe said.
The president’s remarks followed the election of Phionah Karungi to the Executive Committee and the appointment of national team captains Peace Lekuru and Byron Oketayot as Athlete Representatives.
Kayangwe said the integration of athlete voices and broader representation within the Executive Committee would strengthen decision-making and help drive player development, accountability and alignment with global rugby standards.
The AGM also reviewed finances, strategies and development programmes, with the union outlining priorities for the 2026 cycle as it seeks to grow the sport nationwide.
