Uganda has allocated Shs 29.57 billion towards preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 after Parliament approved Supplementary Expenditure Schedule No. 5 for the 2025/26 financial year on May 5.
The supplementary budget totals Shs 1,105.16 billion and was presented by State Minister for General Duties Henry Musasizi.
The AFCON allocation forms part of a broader funding package aimed at key national priorities, including elections, security obligations and public service delivery.
The funding comes at a critical stage in Uganda’s build-up to the continental tournament, which it will co-host under the Pamoja AFCON 2027 arrangement alongside regional partners. The allocation is expected to support ongoing infrastructure development, logistics planning and operational readiness.
Uganda’s preparations have increasingly shifted into the implementation phase, with focus areas including stadium upgrades, training facilities and transport infrastructure required to meet Confederation of African Football standards.
Work has already been ongoing at key venues, with authorities under pressure to meet strict timelines set for host nations.
Relatedly, Confederation of African Football has dispatched its Venue Infrastructure and Operations Manager for AFCON 2027 Uganda, Bianca Wambui Brenda, who is in the country to inspect and assess readiness of facilities.
The inspection process is a routine but crucial step in determining whether infrastructure projects are on track and compliant with CAF requirements. It also feeds into broader operational planning, including match hosting capabilities, security arrangements and fan experience standards.
Beyond infrastructure, Uganda has also been working on institutional coordination, with multiple government agencies involved in delivering the tournament.
The newly approved funds are expected to ease financing gaps and accelerate delayed components of the preparation roadmap.
The AFCON allocation sits within a wider supplementary package that includes Shs 56.95 billion for local council elections, Shs 132.9 billion for Uganda Police obligations and additional funding for health workers and education projects.
