Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso on a four‑year deal, making him their third permanent boss this season.
The 44‑year‑old Spaniard, fresh from a historic Bundesliga and German Cup double with Bayer Leverkusen in 2024, left Real Madrid in January and now steps into Stamford Bridge after the club’s FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Alonso, a former Liverpool midfielder and World Cup winner with Spain, vowed to build a side capable of competing “consistently at the highest level” and restoring Chelsea’s trophy ambitions.
