FUFA President Moses Magogo has described the Uganda Cubs’ qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup as “a win for all Ugandans” after the national team secured a second consecutive appearance at the global tournament.
Uganda booked their place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar after edging Ghana on penalties in the CAF U-17 AFCON play-offs, continuing the country’s rise in youth football.
In a statement released on Sunday, Magogo congratulated the players and hailed the collective effort behind the achievement, thanking the Government of Uganda, schools, coaches, referees, sponsors, parents, fans and the media for supporting the team’s journey.
“It’s a win for all Ugandans,” Magogo said. “Back-to-Back FIFA World Cup Qualification for the Uganda U17 National Boys Team, the Uganda Cubs. Congratulations, boys, for making your Country proud.”
The FUFA president also praised the federation’s executive committee and staff for their role in planning and implementing the team’s development programme, saying the achievement reflected progress within Ugandan football.
“This is a win for Ugandan football as the Uganda Cubs take the global stage for a second consecutive time,” he added.
Magogo further reaffirmed FUFA’s commitment to preparing the team for the World Cup in Qatar, promising the Cubs “the best possible support and preparations” ahead of the tournament.
He also singled out head coach Laryea Kingston and his technical team for guiding the side through a demanding qualifying campaign.
Uganda’s qualification marks another major milestone for youth football in the country, with the Cubs continuing to establish themselves among Africa’s emerging forces at U-17 level.
