Aryna Sabalenka’s French Open dream imploded as she blew a 6-3, 4-1 lead and lost 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 to Diana Shnaider in the quarter-finals.
The world number one committed 57 unforced errors in windy conditions and admitted she fell into a “deep, dark hole” mentally.

Shnaider, the 25th seed, won 12 of the last 13 games to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final, where she will face qualifier Maja Chwalinska.
With Sabalenka out, Mirra Andreeva is now the highest-ranked player left in a women’s draw stripped of former champions.
