The race for the 2026 FUFA Women’s Cup title has been narrowed down to four teams after a dramatic weekend of quarter-final action that confirmed Kampala Queens FC, Lady Doves FC, Amus College WFC and Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC as this year’s semi-finalists.
Before kick-off at all quarter-final matches, players, officials and supporters observed a moment of silence in honour of late She Corporate FC midfielder Cissy Nantongo.
Defending champions Amus College WFC were forced to dig deep to keep their title defence alive after being pushed to the limit by She Maroons FC. The closely fought contest ended goalless after normal time, with neither side able to find the breakthrough.
The holders eventually prevailed 9-8 in a tense penalty shootout, securing their place in the last four and keeping alive their dream of making history. No club has successfully defended the FUFA Women’s Cup since the competition was introduced, leaving Amus with an opportunity to become the first team to retain the trophy.
Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC joined them in the semi-finals after producing an impressive display against Wakiso Hill WFC at Kawempe Muslim Ground. The hosts dominated possession and controlled much of the contest before Latifah Nakasi opened the scoring. Asia Nakibuuka later added a second goal to seal a comfortable 2-0 victory.
On Saturday, Kampala Queens FC had become the first team to book a semi-final place after edging St. Noa Girls FC 1-0 at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
St. Noa created several promising opportunities during the opening half but failed to convert their chances. Kampala Queens improved after the interval and eventually found the decisive moment in the 66th minute when substitute Joanita Ainembabazi calmly lifted the ball over goalkeeper Lillian Nakirya to score the only goal of the match.
Lady Doves FC also progressed with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over UCU Lady Cardinals. Cecilia Apiding proved the difference between the two sides, netting the winning goal to send her team into the semi-finals.
Attention now turns to the last four, where Kampala Queens FC will face Lady Doves FC in a two-legged tie. The first leg will be played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, before the return fixture at Katusabe Ground.
In the other semi-final, defending champions Amus College WFC will host Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in the first leg at Amus College Stadium, with the return match scheduled for Kawempe Muslim SS Ground.
With the competition now down to four contenders, the battle for a place in the final promises to produce more drama as Amus chase history and the remaining challengers seek to deny the holders another trophy.
