Uganda Premier League heavyweights URA FC have reinforced their long-term plans by securing the services of promising youngsters Godfrey Ssekibengo and Innocent John Kisolo on new contracts.
The Tax Collectors have successfully reached agreements with both players, who have each penned fresh two-year extensions to remain at the club. The new deals come after the expiration of the contracts they signed upon joining URA ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The renewals represent a significant vote of confidence in two players regarded as part of the club’s next generation, with URA keen to preserve continuity as they build towards future success on both the domestic and continental fronts.
Kisolo’s football journey has been shaped by a strong developmental background. The defender first made a name for himself while captaining St. Henry’s College Kitovu, one of Uganda’s most respected school football programs. Before his move to URA, he progressed through the youth ranks at KCCA FC, featuring in the FUFA Juniors League, and further enhanced his reputation through appearances for Mawokota in the Masaza Cup.
Ssekibengo’s rise mirrors that of his teammate in several ways. He was also part of the celebrated St. Henry’s College Kitovu side that reached the final of the 2023 USSSA National Boys Football Championship in Fort Portal, sharing the squad with highly rated youngster Denis Luzige Kisiriko.
The midfielder’s development pathway included time with KCCA FC’s U-17 team before he continued his football education at Bukedea Comprehensive School, where he competed in both USSSA and FEASSSA tournaments.
Among the standout moments of his youth career were appearances at the Gothia Cup tournaments in China in 2017 and 2018 while representing KJT. Ssekibengo’s exceptional displays earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player accolade in both editions, underlining his immense potential from an early age.
His talent was equally evident on the international stage. In 2019, he played an instrumental role as Uganda captured the inaugural CECAFA U-15 Championship in Eritrea, adding a regional title to his growing list of achievements.
A graduate of Streamline Football Academy, Ssekibengo also gained overseas exposure during his formative years through a stint with Luncia Junior Team in Spain, where he underwent trials in Valencia.
By retaining both Ssekibengo and Kisolo, URA FC have demonstrated their determination to keep hold of some of the country’s most exciting emerging talents. The contract extensions not only reward the duo’s progress but also provide the club with a solid foundation as it continues to shape a competitive squad for the seasons ahead.
