The 2026 Dwog Pacu Cup has officially been launched, with a mission to nurture talent, promote unity, and strengthen cultural identity across the Lango Sub-region.
Originally established as the Omer Christmas Cup to foster football talent and community cohesion within Maruzi, the tournament has since evolved into the Dwog Pacu Cup — now a regional competition uniting teams from all 21 constituencies across Lango.
The launch event in Lira City drew football stakeholders, sponsors, and sports enthusiasts, all praising the tournament’s growing influence on grassroots football and community development.
Tournament chairperson Kenneth Kaunda Okwir revealed that the competition has already enabled 105 learners to secure full bursary scholarships in schools nationwide — 60 boys and 45 girls.
The Dwog Pacu Cup, whose name translates as “Come Back Home,” was created to reconnect talented footballers with their roots while offering a platform to identify and nurture young players from across the sub-region.
The inaugural edition featured 21 teams, culminating in Kioga County lifting the maiden trophy after defeating Lira City West in the final.
Organisers say the second edition will build on that success by expanding opportunities for young players, strengthening partnerships, and deepening community participation.
