Stepping Up: Abby Priscilla’s Journey from UCU to Grayson College

In the world of basketball, every player dreams of reaching new heights and pushing their limits to achieve greatness. For Abby Priscilla, a talented player hailing from Uganda, her journey in the sport has been nothing short of extraordinary as she embarks on a new chapter in her basketball career. Arriving in the United States in January 2022, Abby’s transition to playing college basketball at Grayson College marked a significant milestone in her life.

Coming from Uganda Christian University basketball program, Abby viewed this opportunity as a privilege to compete at a higher level and challenge herself in ways she had never imagined.
“I would advise every player from high school to join UCU if they want to improve and go to the next level, in my opinion it has the best coaches, she said.”

Reflecting on her initial experiences with the Lady Vikings at Grayson College, Abby was faced with a new set of challenges and techniques that differed greatly from what she was accustomed to back home. The rigorous skill development and intense ball handling drills tested her abilities and pushed her out of her comfort zone.

Despite moments of frustration, Abby credits her time at UCU and the guidance of coaches Kiguyi Emma and Nick Natuhereza for laying a solid foundation for her to excel in the competitive environment at Grayson.
“Coach Kiguyi Emma and Coach Nick Natuhereza helped me a lot on building my skillset ,coming into this Grayson program , some things were familiar with what I learnt from UCU which helped me fit in quickly as time went by.”

As a freshman, Abby embraced the opportunity to play multiple positions and took on the responsibility of meeting high expectations set before her. Her relentless work ethic and dedication paid off as she earned accolades such as Player of the Week for her impressive performances on the court, showcasing an average of 18.0 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per game.

Abby’s perseverance through challenges and her unwavering commitment to improvement garnered the attention of about 10 D1 programs in her freshman year setting the stage for her future endeavors in collegiate basketball.

Returning for her second year at Grayson, Abby faced new challenges as she assumed the role of team captain amidst changes within the coaching staff. Balancing leadership responsibilities with on-court performance demanded a level of consistency and determination that Abby rose to meet.

Her efforts were recognized with prestigious awards such as first team All-Conference honors and first team All-Academic distinctions, highlighting her excellence both on and off the court.
One of Abby’s standout moments at Grayson was her clutch performance in a crucial game that propelled her team to victory and secured a spot in the regional playoffs tournament.

“In my freshman year, I won Grayson a very important tie game in 3 seconds to advance to the final four . Going 9-9 on the free throw line and leading the team with 20 points and 14 rebounds which later in the week got me a player of a week award. That right there, was my best moment.”

Looking ahead, Abby sets her sights on playing Division 1 basketball at UTEP, a testament to her unwavering dedication and ambition in the sport. With impressive statistics including averaging 11.1 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and demonstrating strong 3 point shooting percentages at 32.5, Abby is poised for continued success and growth in her basketball journey.
