The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled plans to integrate mass football competitions, known as Mbuzi Tournaments, alongside the existing 4th Division Leagues.
This announcement came during a stakeholders meeting between the FUFA Executive Committee and representatives from the Kawempe District Football Association.
According to FUFA President Moses Magogo, the initiative aims to empower District Football Associations (DFAs) by granting them permission to organize Mbuzi Tournaments concurrently with the 4th Division Leagues.
Magogo emphasized the significance of utilizing this opportunity, stating, “We are analyzing some ideas deeper on how we can grant permission to the District Football Associations to organize mass football competitions ‘Mbuzi Tournaments’ to run concurrently with the 4th Division Leagues. We plan to have this project start next season but strictly for the DFAs. We must use this space or else it will be occupied by others.”
The decision is a strategic effort by FUFA to decentralize football development and foster grassroots participation across Uganda. By empowering DFAs to host these tournaments, FUFA aims to create a vibrant football ecosystem that engages communities at the grassroots level.
The Mbuzi Tournaments, which are expected to commence in the upcoming season, will provide a platform for aspiring football talents to showcase their skills and compete at a local level.
Additionally, the integration of these tournaments alongside the 4th Division Leagues is poised to enhance the overall structure of Ugandan football, promoting inclusivity and fostering talent development from the grassroots up.
