The recently concluded Uganda Hockey Easter Cup 2024 saw exciting matches and intense competition across various categories. The competition that ran from Friday 29th March to Sunday 31st March saw different teams participate in the schools, men and women’s categories.
In the senior men’s category, Weatherhead showcased their dominance, emerging as champions after a gripping final against the Stallions. With a decisive 3-1 victory, Weatherhead secured their title in a display of skill and teamwork.
Meanwhile, in a dramatic showdown in the schools boys’ category, Kyaddondo boys snatched the title from Kakungulu in a nail-biting penalty shootout. The match ended 5-4 on penalties, with Kyaddondo boys emerging victorious and claiming the championship title.
In the girls’ category, Kakungulu Girls demonstrated their prowess by overpowering Namagunga to defend their title. With a commanding 3-0 win, Kakungulu Girls showcased their strength and determination on the field, solidifying their position as champions once again.
In the Senior Women’s category, the Swans emerged triumphant as champions, albeit under unusual circumstances. Their victory came after Wananchi forfeited the final game, allowing the Swans to claim the title uncontested.
Celebrating individual excellence, Norah Alum of the Swans was recognized as the Women’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her outstanding performance throughout the tournament. On the men’s side, Jordan Mpiima of the Stallions was awarded the Men’s MVP, highlighting his exceptional contributions to his team’s success.
The Uganda National Hockey League will resume next weekend on 9th and 10th of April at the Hockey National Stadium in Lugogo.
