Ugandan Kickboxing Champion Aims for International Glory

Hailing from Iganga, Uganda, kickboxing champion Abdul Latif Deyongera  (80kg cruiserweight) recently captured the hearts of his nation by clinching the World All Fight System Organization (WFSO) title. This victory marks a significant milestone in the career of a dedicated athlete who has been battling it out in the ring since the early 2000s.

Balancing his passion for fighting with his work as a driver, Deyongera exemplifies perseverance. He chooses to train and live in Iganga, his hometown, despite the limitations it presents.

“I always admired combat sports growing up,” Deyongera says, reflecting on his journey. “Stepping into the ring myself was a dream come true.”

While his dream has become reality, the lack of readily available opponents has hindered the number of fights he’s desired. Despite this challenge, his record speaks for itself – over 30 bouts with a single defeat throughout his career.

“Training facilities in Iganga aren’t ideal,” Deyongera acknowledges. “But I make the most of what I have.”

He expresses his gratitude towards fellow Ugandan kick boxers, Titus Tugume and Moses Golola, for their efforts in promoting the sport and creating a stronger community for fighters.

The WFSO title holds immense value for Deyongera. It’s not just a trophy; it’s a stepping stone. His sights are now set on an upcoming international fight against a German opponent, the details of which are yet to be finalized.

With his new title win and an international fight on the horizon, Deyongera is well on his way to achieving even greater glory in the world of kickboxing.
