The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has announced the commencement of player registration for the upcoming Primary Schools Basketball League, slated to kick off in the second term and extend into the third term of the academic year.
The registration drive aims to encourage Primary School Games Teachers to enlist their players in advance, facilitating the preparation process for the 2024 season. FUBA has outlined specific criteria for player eligibility, stipulating that teams can have a minimum of 12 players and a maximum of 18 players, all born between January 1st, 2010, and December 31st, 2016.
The Primary Schools Basketball League represents a significant initiative by FUBA to foster comprehensive talent development at the grassroots level. Speaking on NBS Sport Beats and Balls earlier this month, the Commissioner of Youth and Mini Basketball at FUBA, Patricia Ayebare underscored the organization’s commitment to making basketball more accessible.
“Most of us encountered basketball in secondary school. We want to change that—to take the game to primary schools. We want to make the game as accessible as possible,” the she stated.
FUBA’s initiative holds promise for not only nurturing young talent but also for promoting the sport’s reach and inclusivity among Uganda’s youth. Registration can be done through this link.
