Last season’s National Basketball League playoff finalists, KIU Titans, are aiming to strengthen their offensive prowess and secure more victories in the second round as they pursue their inaugural league championship under the guidance of coach Julius Lutwama.
Based in Kansanga, the KIU Titans have set their sights on a robust performance in the second round to fulfill their season objectives, particularly targeting the overthrow of the nine-time champions, City Oilers, whom they fell to 4-2 in the finals.
In a bid for consistency, the team has maintained an unchanged roster, focusing on improving upon their 8-3 first-round record.
Head coach Julius Lutwama emphasizes the importance of offensive strategy, stating, “We are refining our offense and aiming for more players to reach double figures as we prioritize teamwork and ball distribution. Competing against nine-time defending champions requires a collective effort, both offensively and defensively.”
Despite losses to City Oilers (72-63), Namuwongo Blazers (63-59), and KCCA Panthers (67-61) in the first round, Lutwama highlights the significant contributions of Congolese duo Tembo Kasereka and Juf Mpiya, who joined the team at the start of the campaign. He says, “These players are exceptional, and as they adapt to a new country and team, we anticipate greater contributions from them in the second round. We hold them to professional standards and expect them to perform accordingly.”
With a squad boasting a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, the Titans aim to achieve a balanced approach between their back and frontcourt players, emphasizing coordinated gameplay to challenge perennial rivals such as City Oilers, UCU Canons, and Namuwongo Blazers.
