Erina Namutebi was again Uganda’s best performer on the continent after scooping silver at the concluded inaugural Mandela Cup held in Durban, South Africa.
Namutebi was forced to withdraw from the final against Congo’s Marveille Mbalayi on Sunday after a severe right hand injury.
The UPDF boxer, who also won Silver at last year’s African Boxing Championship in Cameroon, returns home from South Africa with USD 3000.
Meanwhile, Captain Matovu Ukasha, Shalua Ndagire, Emilly Nakalema and debutant Fatuma Nabiko settled for Bronze and return with USD1500 each.
Kassim Murungi who won Bronze at this year’s African Games and last year’s African boxing silver medalist Wasswa Ssali bowed out at the quarterfinals.
