Teamwork Key in Our Double Over Livingstone – Namblazers’ Arthur Wanyoto

Namuwongo Blazers forward Arthur Wanyoto attributes his side’s 75-64 win over Livingstone to team work and resolute defense to complete a season double against the side.

The two teams went toe to toe through the first two quarters as the Steven Nyeko coached side trailed 30-29 by halftime.

A spirited third-quarter run saw the Blazers establish a 10-point lead at the end of the period with captain Paul Odong scoring stepping up to score crucial points beyond the arc. Forward Peter Cheng also played a key role to lead the side on both ends.

“Practice the recent days has been tough coming into the game and we are happy we pulled it out. The defense was up to the task and drove us to the win,” said Arthur.

“We have driving factors on offense and they stepped up and helped us during the tough times as I also learn the plays and help the team,” he added.

Cheng led the charts with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds with Paul Odong and forward Joseph Chuma adding 17 and 11 points respectively.

While Livingstone, who saw second round addition Derrick Katumba and forward Bismark Okot step up in the decisive minutes, the newcomers could not complete a comeback as the 2022 finalists cruised to a win.

Head coach Eric Matovu believes his showcased a fighting spirit.

“The boys left everything on the floor and they fought, we are yet to gell so we are work in progress. Daniel Kaweesa, Innocent Muhumuza and Derrick Katumba are very good players and they have added to the team,” Matovu stated.

The Namuwongo Blazers sit third on the log with a 9-3 record while Livingstone are eighth having won four and lost nine. In the women’s game, the magic Stormers saw picked a sixth win of the campaign overcoming UPDF Lady Tomahawks 55-43.

Action returns on Friday as JT Lady Jaguars take on KIU Rangers while D-Mark Power will face Namuwongo Blazers in the other tie. Action will air live on NBS Sport.
