The Uganda Baseball and Softball Association (UBASA) is gearing up for its elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) this Saturday, April 27th, at the Uganda Olympic Committee headquarters. In an exclusive interview with NBS Sports this morning, Jimmy Ssekandi, the sole candidate for the Public Relations (PR) position, discussed his vision for Ugandan baseball and his reasons for running.
Ssekandi, a player, coach, and the founder of the Baseball at Heart foundation, is passionate about building a stronger image for baseball in Uganda. He highlighted the sport’s recent successes, including the U12 and U15 teams qualifying for the Baseball World Cup last year and the exciting signing of young talent Allan Ojoti by the LA Dodgers.
“Not many people know how far Ugandan baseball has come,” Ssekandi remarked. “I want to use the PR position to showcase our success stories and attract more sponsorship deals to further develop the sport.”
This AGM comes after a delay from December 2023 due to leadership disputes. A resolution was passed requiring members and candidates to submit proof of association membership and activity for the past two years. Vetting procedures will be conducted before the elections.
Other Positions Up for Grabs:
- Chairman
- Vice Chairman
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Technical & Competitions Officer (Baseball)
- Technical & Competitions Officer (Softball)
- Disciplinary Officer
With Ssekandi’s dedication and the association’s recent achievements, Ugandan baseball seems poised for continued growth and positive exposure. This weekend’s elections will be a crucial step in shaping the sport’s future.
