In a exciting encounter at the ICC Women’s World Cup Global Qualifiers, the Victoria Pearls emerged victorious against USA Women, claiming an impressive 8-wicket win.
USA Women won the toss and elected to bat first, aiming to set a challenging target for Uganda.
Disha Dhingra provided a solid start, scoring 25 runs off 24 balls. Captain Sindhu Sriharsha and Ritu Singh further stabilized the innings with a crucial 40-run partnership for the third wicket. Gargi Bhogle’s quick cameo of 19 runs off 16 balls propelled USA to a competitive total of 110/5.
However, Uganda’s bowlers showcased their skill and determination, with Sarah Walaza and Sarah Akiteng each claiming a wicket to disrupt USA’s momentum. Concy Aweko’s crucial dismissal of captain Sindhu Sriharsha, who scored 26 runs, proved to be a significant breakthrough for Uganda.
In response, Uganda faced early setbacks, losing two wickets in quick succession. Yet, they bounced back resiliently, thanks to an outstanding partnership between Immaculate Nakisuuyi and Stephani Nampiina. Nakisuuyi exhibited exceptional batting prowess, remaining unbeaten with a stellar knock of 68 runs off 64 balls, guiding Uganda to victory alongside Nampiina, who contributed 33 runs off 27 balls.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Uganda, as it is their first win of the Qualifier tournament, having lost to Scotland in the first game.
In other Group A action, Sri Lanka delivered a dominant performance, securing a commanding 10-wicket win over Scotland, solidifying the position at top of Group A.
Uganda must finish in the top two of Group A to make it to the semi finals.
