Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club has announced a significant contract extension with goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana Captain Ronwen Williams, securing his services until at least 2028 with a 4-year contract extension and a 1-year option.
Williams, who joined the club in 2022, has been instrumental in the team’s success, contributing to their victory in the DStv Premiership and their qualification for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. Speaking on his extension, Williams expressed his delight and gratitude for the club’s faith in him, stating, “I’m over the moon. It just shows the belief that the club has in me, it shows the value that I’ve brought to the club.”
The goalkeeper highlighted his happiness at Mamelodi Sundowns since day one, acknowledging the club’s role in his personal and professional growth. Williams had a stellar 2023/24 campaign, playing a pivotal role in the team’s record start in the league and delivering outstanding performances for the South African National Team at the Africa Cup of Nations, where they secured a commendable third-place finish.
The contract extension serves as a morale boost for Williams and the team as they aim to end the season on a high note and pursue more trophies.
