With two months left before the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, several athletes have today taken to the track and field at the sixth edition of the national athletics trials as they continue preparations.
The event held at Uganda Christian University, Mukono featured short, middle and long distance competitions along with javelin, discus, shot put, long jump and triple jump.
Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Benson Okot who won the 100m race with an impressive time of 10.5 second is utilizing the national athletics trials as preparation for his upcoming European tour as he looks to seal Olympic qualification.
Okot was part of the 4X100m relay team that broke the national record during the Kenya trials last month after it had stood for 37 years setting a new time of 38.58 seconds.
The sprinter along with other participants who competed across the 17 events are aiming to continue their pursuit for various targets.
Focus now turns to the regional championships in Soroti, Iganga, Kanungu, Arua, Tororo, Fort Portal and Gulu due this month.
