ICC Announces Different Playing Conditions for T20 World Cup Semis

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced distinct playing conditions for the two semifinals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies. The unique arrangements aim to accommodate potential weather disruptions while ensuring the matches proceed smoothly.

The first semifinal is scheduled for June 26 in Trinidad, starting at 8:30 PM local time (12:30 AM GMT on June 27). This match will adhere to traditional playing conditions, including a reserve day. If rain disrupts play on June 26, the match will continue on June 27.

In contrast, the second semifinal, set for June 27 at the Guyana National Stadium, will begin at 10:30 AM local time (03:00 PM GMT). This match will not have a reserve day. Instead, the ICC has allocated an additional 250 minutes of playing time, allowing umpires to extend play for up to eight hours to complete the match on the same day.

According to existing ICC rules (Clause 13.6 of the Playing Conditions), the priority is to complete the match on the scheduled day by reducing overs if necessary. Only if the minimum number of overs (five per side) cannot be bowled will the match move to the reserve day.

The final of the T20 World Cup is slated for June 29 in Barbados, starting at 10:30 AM local time. This schedule ensures that if the second semifinal encounters delays, the winning team will have less than 24 hours to prepare for the final.
