Uganda Finishes Sixth in HSBC Challenger Series, Misses Play-Off Spots

Both the men’s and women’s national sevens rugby teams of Uganda finished in sixth place in the HSBC Challenger Series, falling short of the required top-four positions needed to advance to the HSBC SVNS 2025 Play-Off in Madrid.

The Ugandan men’s team accumulated a total of 28 points throughout the series. This placed them 28 points behind the leaders, Uruguay, who topped the standings. Meanwhile, Uganda’s East African counterparts, Kenya, secured the second spot with 48 points.

On the women’s side, the Lady Rugby Cranes finished with 36 points, narrowly missing the fourth-place cutoff by four points, which was occupied by Poland. China dominated the women’s division with 60 points, taking the overall lead.

The Ugandan women finished just two points behind Kenya, who also did not make it to the playoffs.

The HSBC Challenger Series is a crucial platform for emerging rugby nations to compete at a higher level and gain international experience.
