KCB Nkumba Volleyball Club drew first blood in the women’s National Volleyball League Finals series, edging Ndejje Elites 3-2 on Sunday evening to gain a critical advantage.
In a tightly contested match Nkumba emerged victorious after a five-set thriller, putting themselves within striking distance of the league title.
The result also marked Ndejje’s first loss of the season, a notable upset given their dominant 18-0 record in the regular season and two victories in the semifinals.
Nkumba set the tone early, claiming the first set 25-21. However, Ndejje quickly responded, winning the second set decisively 25-15.
The back-and-forth battle continued as Nkumba took the third set 25-19, only for Ndejje to level the match again by winning the fourth set 25-19. The decisive fifth set saw Nkumba triumph 15-10, securing the match.
The victory places Nkumba in a commanding position as the best-of-three series moves forward. A win in Game Two would guarantee them the championship title.
With their title hopes now reduced, Ndejje will need to regroup and deliver a flawless performance in Game Two to force a decisive third game.
