Kawempe Muslim Secondary School made an impressive debut at the CAF African Schools Football Championship, securing third place in the tournament. The team demonstrated remarkable skill and resilience, remaining unbeaten in the group stage and showcasing their talent on an international platform.
Competing in Group B, Kawempe Muslim SS topped the group with seven points. They drew 1-1 with South Africa and achieved decisive 2-0 victories over Togo and Gambia.
Their performance earned them a spot in the semi-finals, where they faced a strong Moroccan side and narrowly lost 1-0.
In the third-place playoff, Kawempe Muslim SS faced Tanzania. Cynthia Kirenga scored the decisive goal, leading her team to a 1-0 victory and securing the bronze medal.
Shadia Nabirye’s outstanding performance throughout the championship earned her the title of top scorer, with three goals to her name.
As bronze medalists, the team received $150,000 in prize money, which will support further development and investment in the school’s football program.
FUFA President Moses Magogo extended his congratulations to the team, stating, “Congratulations Kawempe Muslim for finishing 3rd at the African Schools Football Championship – girls category. The school’s contribution to the development of the women’s game through identifying and nurturing talent is commendable.”
