The newly refurbished Nakivubo Stadium is set to officially open its doors on June 1st, 2024, with the first match seeing reigning Stanbic Uganda Cup champions Kitara take on URA.
The Tax Collectors have a history at Nakivubo notably beating KCCA 2-1 at the grounds to win their first Uganda Cup in 2005.
In the just concluded Startimes Uganda Premier League season, Kitara finished 4th, with an impressive 12 wins, 6 draws, and 6 losses while URA finished 8th with 9 wins, 9 draws, and 8 losses.
In terms of head to head, the two clubs have met three times with each club winning one of those games and drawing one.
Their last encounter ended in a 3-0 victory for Kitara with goals from Denis Omedi, Jude Ssemugabi, and Kabon Living. The match was marked by a dramatic turn of events when URA’s Ivan Ahimbisibwe received a red card in the 57th minute.
With Alex Isabirye set to mark his return to coaching duties for URA, the club would be looking to make a strong start to his era. Kitara will also look to finish the season on a high after a successful first season after promotion from the Big League.
Tickets for the event are available via Next Ticket, with prices ranging from UGX 50,000 to UGX 150,000.
