Cranes’ Travis Mutyaba Eager to Impress on Namboole Debut

As the Uganda Cranes prepare for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, midfielder Travis Mutyaba is eager to make his mark on his debut at the country’s iconic Namboole stadium.

Fresh off his success in guiding Egyptian side Zamalek SC to their CAF Confederation Cup triumph, the talented playmaker is relishing the opportunity to take the field at the newly refurbished stadium.

“It is every Ugandan footballer’s dream to play at Namboole,” Mutyaba said in an interview. “I was unfortunate that by the time I got my first cap, the team was hosting away from home, but I’m glad that I now have the opportunity to be at Namboole as a player.”

The 18-year-old midfielder has represented Uganda at various youth levels, including the U15 Rhinos, U17 Cubs, where he was the MVP at the 2020 U17 CECAFA cup, and U20 Hippos but has never played at Namboole.

Having had his first senior team call-up in December 2021 during a friendly game against Tanzania, Mutyaba, who is one of Uganda’s most promising young talents, is now eagerly awaiting his chance to take the field and impress at the nation’s iconic ground.

“While I was young, my coach and father took me to Namboole to watch the Uganda Cranes,” Mutyaba recalled. “It was an unforgettable experience because of the players and the atmosphere created by the fans. I’m too anxious and cannot wait to share the experience.”

Uganda Cranes prepare to take on Botswana tomorrow and Algeria on Monday, June 10th, and Mutyaba is urging the fans to come out in full force and rally behind the team.

Mutyaba believes the support of the passionate Namboole faithful can play a crucial role in propelling the team to victory in the World Cup qualifiers.
