Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, has been hit with a setback as captain Khalid Aucho has been sidelined due to injury, ruling him out of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Aucho, who expressed his initial excitement to join the team, revealed that MRI results unveiled the unfortunate setback.
“I was thrilled to join the team, but unfortunately, my MRI results revealed a setback. However, I want to assure you that the rest of the team is in top form and ready to give their all,” Aucho conveyed at a media briefing on Thursday morning.
The 30-year-old defensive midfielder, who plies his trade for Tanzania’s Young Africans, will be sorely missed by the Cranes as they gear up for crucial matches. Despite Aucho’s absence, the team remains optimistic and determined to perform at their best.
In his address to the media, Head Coach Paul Put acknowledged the challenges in assembling the team but emphasized the dedication of the players, especially the 16 local talents forming a strong foundation.
“Assembling the team has been a challenge, but we’ve had a strong foundation with 16 dedicated local players, despite injuries and delayed arrivals from international players,” Coach Put stated.
He further expressed optimism about the team’s preparations and their readiness to face formidable opponents.
With matches against Botswana scheduled for tomorrow and Algeria on Monday, June 10th, the Cranes are focused on overcoming these obstacles and delivering commendable performances.
“I’m optimistic about our preparations and the team’s hard work. The players have shown tremendous dedication, and I have a good feeling about our chances – we’re ready to give it our all,” Coach Put added.
