Chelsea want to keep Christopher Nkunku at the club, dismissing reports that the French attacker might leave during the summer transfer window. Despite a challenging debut season marred by injuries, the 26-year-old is seen as a key part of Chelsea’s future under new manager Enzo Maresca.
Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, missed 39 games across all competitions last season due to four different injury problems. His limited appearances, only 11 games in total, prevented him from making a significant impact on the pitch. However, Chelsea remains committed to integrating him into their plans for the upcoming season.
Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the club’s stance via a tweet: “Christopher Nkunku, key part of Chelsea plans for next season and for the future. No chance for an exit, despite reports on bids and more. After unlucky first season, club keeps planning with Nkunku as crucial player and he’s determined to do his best for Chelsea.”
Before joining Chelsea, Nkunku had a successful season in the Bundesliga, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists for RB Leipzig. Chelsea hopes he can replicate this form once he regains full fitness.
Nkunku is focused on proving himself at Stamford Bridge and has no intention of leaving the West London club.
