Former Uganda Cranes Captain, Denis Onyango, has shared his insights on the team’s performance, following their recent win against Botswana and ahead of today’s crucial match against Algeria.
Speaking on the NBS Sport Press Box show, Onyango reflected on the team’s 1-0 victory over Botswana, saying, “It was a hard-fought win, and I’m proud of the boys for getting the three points.” Muhammad Shaban’s 74th-minute goal sealed the win for Uganda, with the assist from Denis Omedi .
However, Onyango emphasized the need for improvement, particularly in creative midfield, to enhance the team’s attacking prowess. “We need to improve on the quality of midfielders who provide assists for the strikers. The whole team has to improve in terms of helping the strikers score,” he said.
As the Cranes prepare to face Algeria today, Onyango urged the team to build on their recent success. “It’s a tough game, but we have the talent and determination to get a good result. We need to work together and support each other to achieve our goals.” Algeria has won the last three meetings between the teams, but Uganda will be hoping to change their luck at the Mandela National Stadium.
Onyango also praised Allan Okello’s talent, urging him to make a greater impact on the team.
