Onduparaka Football Club’s forward, James Jarieko, has announced his departure after three years with the Caterpillars.
Jarieko, who joined the club in 2021 from Paidha Black Angels, shared the news of his exit with a heartfelt message to fans, teammates, and the club’s management.
“It’s with a mix of sadness and gratitude that I announce my departure from the club after three incredible years,” he stated.
Throughout the 2023 season, the JIPRA student made notable contributions, being directly involved in eight goals, scoring three, and providing five assists.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Jarieko said he had experienced growth both as a player and an individual.
“I’ve grown so much as a player and a person, and I’ll always cherish the memories we’ve made together,” he said.
Jarieko, a former Uganda U17 national team player, extended his gratitude to all those who supported him during his time at the Greenlight Stadium. He specifically thanked his coaches, teammates, the club’s board, and the loyal fans.
“I want to express my heartfelt thanks to my coaches, who believed in me and pushed me to be my best; my teammates, who became like brothers to me; the board of the club, from the president down, for their guidance and support; and most importantly, the amazing fans, whose energy and encouragement motivated me every step of the way,” Jarieko stated.
Onduparaka is the only top-flight club Jarieko has played for. He also had stints with Paidha Black Angels Juniors Team and BUL Juniors Team before his tenure with the Caterpillars.
Despite their efforts, Onduparaka narrowly missed promotion to the Uganda Premier League and will continue in the second division next season.
Jarieko played his final game for Onduparaka in a 3-0 victory over Calvary FC in the FUFA Big League’s last match at the Greenlight Stadium. His final goal for the club came in a 2-1 defeat against Mbale Heroes in the penultimate league game.
