Mukwaya Edward, a metal fabricator from Kiwatule, is poised to make his debut in the Uganda Boxing Champions League, stepping into the ring for the 67kg weight category representing Kiwatule Boxing Club.
His highly anticipated match in Week 3 of Season 3 will see him face Matovu Ukasha, the seasoned and undefeated captain of the national boxing team, the Bombers. Ukasha currently holds the 67kg championship title following the departure of Kibira Owen from the weight class.
During a media visit by NBS Sport ahead of the fight scheduled for June 22, 2024, at the NCS Arena in Lugogo, Mukwaya appeared unfazed by his opponent’s formidable record. Confidently, he stated:
“I am Mukwaya Edward, also known as ‘Pastor,’ and I am ready to fight Ukasha on June 22nd.”
Explaining the origin of his nickname, “Pastor,” Mukwaya said:
“I used not to train on Sundays, and my coach gave me that nickname. But I am also a born-again Christian and a believer.”
Mukwaya shared insights into his decision to join the Champions League and his background:
“We have been around but keeping a low profile. We saw these guys here and realized we could handle them. So, I decided it was time to join and show them what we can do.”
Despite Ukasha’s undefeated record, Mukwaya expressed confidence in his ability to win:
“I know him, and I fear nothing about him. This will be his first loss in the Champions League.”
In preparation for the fight, Mukwaya emphasized his rigorous training regimen:
“I am very well prepared for this fight. I have worked on my speed, energy, and everything else. We know his movements because we have been watching his fight videos. We are well-prepared to face him and to win.”
With such determination and preparation, Mukwaya Edward is set to make a significant impact in the Uganda Boxing Champions League, promising an exciting showdown against Matovu Ukasha. This fight will be broadcast live on NBS Sport, starting at 8 PM.
