KIU Titans are gearing up to face KCCA Panthers on Saturday evening in their 19th game of the season, aiming to extend their perfect second-round performance. The Titans have not lost in the NBL since a 67-61 defeat to KCCA Panthers on April 7th, prior to the end of the first round.
The team, known as the pride of Kansanga, comes into Saturday’s game with a franchise record of 10 consecutive wins, demonstrating their desire for more victories. Team Captain Collins Kasujja expressed the team’s determination in a pre-game press conference, saying, “It’s going to be a tough game, we are here to continue our winning streak and the boys are ready to play hard.” He added, “Our goal coming into the second round was to play every game like a final. That’s what we have done in the last seven games and it will not change on Saturday evening.”
Under the guidance of Coach Julius Lutwama, the Titans have been focused and energetic during practice over the last two weeks, working on correcting past mistakes. Before the break, the Titans narrowly defeated Namuwongo Blazers in a 74-71 thriller at Lugogo on June 7th.
Entering the game, the Titans are second on the NBL-Men’s table with a 15-3 record, while KCCA Panthers are third with a 12-8 record. This game will be their last of the regular season.
Ivan Lumanyika, who recently returned to the team, is expected to see more playing time as he continues to find his form. All other players have been cleared by the medical team to feature in Saturday’s game. Coach Lutwama commented on the team’s readiness, stating, “The mood in our camp is great, everyone is in the right state to return to court this weekend. Our goal is to do everything right while respecting the opponent. We know what KCCA is capable of and we are not taking anything for granted.”
