Uganda to Showcase Its Diverse Attractions at the 2024 Paris Olympics

As the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris draw near, the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) has announced ambitious plans to use the global event as a platform to showcase the best of what Uganda has to offer in terms of tourist attractions, wonders and beauty.

In an interview with NBS Sport, UOC President Donald Rukare expressed the country’s excitement and determination to make a lasting impression at the upcoming games.

“We’re going to be very different in terms of showcasing what Uganda has,” Rukare said.

“We’re hoping to have a Uganda house at the Olympics, as a very big part of our strategy, and this will be the first time we’ll have space to showcase what Uganda has to offer.”

Uganda, which is set to be one of the 206 countries competing at the 2024 Olympics, will be sending a team of 18 competitors, including 16 athletes, 1 cyclist, and 1 rower, out of the 4,400 athletes expected to participate.

Rukare emphasised that the country’s focus will extend beyond just the athletic performances, as they aim to promote Uganda’s diverse offerings to the global audience.

“A lot of times people ask us what we have in Uganda; we have the gorillas, national parks, our coffee and tea are a big hit,” Rukare said.

He also revealed that the committee is working closely with the media to promote Uganda’s diverse attractions, and make a lasting impression on the global stage.

“Also the media is heavily involved, so definitely the ‘Explore Uganda’ and ‘Visit Uganda’ tag lines are something we’re working on together with the Uganda Tourism Board because we believe that sports and tourism move together and promoting sports tourism is part of our agenda as we go to Paris,” he revealed.
