Forward Brian Aheebwa’s situation at Kitara is one to watch for during the Ugandan transfer window which opens next week on Tuesday.
Aheebwa signed a one-year contract with Kitara at the start of the 2023/24 season that will expire on June 30.
NBS Sport has learnt that two Uganda Premier League clubs; champions SC Villa and Stanbic Uganda Cup runners-up NEC FC are in the background monitoring his situation.
However, NBS Sport sources also understand that signing a new contract with the Royals is an option the striker is considering should an agreement on new terms be reached.
Aheebwa was involved in nine goals for the Hoima-based club last season as they finished fourth as a newly promoted side. He scored four goals and managed five assists.
He also scored the lone goal as Brian Ssenyondo’s men edged Pajule Lions 1-0 in the second leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinals before they clinched the trophy thanks to a 1-0 victory over one of his suitors NEC in the final played at Wankulukuku.
NEC is one of the clubs that wanted to sign Aheebwa as a free agent last season following the expiry of his three-year contract with KCCA.
At KCCA he worked with Morley Byekwaso with the latter as the assistant to Mike Mutebi before taking over fully after the sacking of his boss.
Byekwaso has since joined Villa as Dusan Stojanovic’s deputy and it is believed that he is the man trying to lure Aheebwa to join the 17-time UPL champions.
Mbarara City is the other SUPL side the 25-year-old has played for besides KCCA and Kitara.
