“Herbert is a player with experience in the second division who played 24 games on the flank during VfL Bochum’s promotion season. We are convinced that he will bring his qualities to bear with us,” said Otmar Schork the sporting director of FC Magdeburg

Bockhorn comes from the Werder Bremen youth and ended up in the English second division at Huddersfield Town via SC Wiedenbrück and Borussia Dortmund.

After his return to Germany in the summer of 2020, the right-back was promoted to the Bundesliga with VfL Bochum just a year later but only made 18 short appearances last season.

“Herbert has already played in Germany for VfL Bochum and Dortmund. He knows them He is good in the league and is a player who can help us with his experience on the right-hand side,” said FCM coach Christian Titz during the defender’s unveiling.

Bockhorn was born to a Ugandan mother, Jean Marion Nansubuga, and a German father, Hartwig Bockhorn. Later the family moved to Germany, where Bockhorn started his career as a footballer at TSV Melsdorf.

On 9 March 2019, Bockhorn was invited by then Uganda head coach Sébastien Desabre to be part of the final team preparing for the final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Tanzania however he suffered an injury set back, just 11 days to the away match against the Taifa Stars.

About Bockhorn’s new club

FC Magdeburg is a German association football club based in the city of Magdeburg.

The club was founded in 1965 and spent all but one season in East Germany’s top flight, the DDR-Oberliga, winning three championships and seven cup titles.

It is the only East German club to have won a European title, winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1974.

After German reunification, the club fell on hard times and only entered professional football in 2015 when the side was promoted to the third division league in Germany.
