Maroons Football Club have announced the signing of 20-year-old centre-back Apollo Kagogwe from Wakiso Giants on a two-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional two years.
Born in 2003, Kagogwe has already established himself as a regular member of the Uganda Hippos U-20 national team.
He put up a stellar performance at the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and the 2024 All African Games in Ghana, where Uganda finished as finalists.
The young defender was also impressive for Wakiso Giants in the just-concluded StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.
His performances for Wakiso, for which he played 21 games, earned him multiple Man of the Match awards, highlighting his potential as one of the most promising young players in Ugandan football.
Maroons announced the signing of Kagogwe on Friday afternoon on their official X handle, and with his arrival, the Luzira-based club that finished 7th in the league last season, has futher strengthened its defensive line that already includes Edward Kabona and Godwin Kitagenda.
Kagogwe becomes the first signing for Maroons in this transfer window, after losing midfielder and captain David Ndihabwe to Kitara early this week.
