Euro 2024 Quarter-Final Preview: England vs. Switzerland

England and Switzerland are set to clash in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf on Saturday evening. This game will be live on NBS Sport.

England, led by Gareth Southgate, will look to overcome their recent struggles and secure a place in the semi-finals, while Switzerland, managed by Murat Yakin, aims to continue their impressive run.

The Three Lions enter the match following a dramatic victory over Slovakia, where Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane were pivotal in overturning a 1-0 deficit to win in extra time.

Despite advancing, England’s performances have been underwhelming, with criticism aimed at their lack of attacking prowess and inability to secure convincing victories.

Marc Guehi will miss the quarter-final due to suspension and injury, with Ezri Konsa expected to step into the defense.

Jude Bellingham, who faced potential disciplinary action for a celebration in the previous match, is cleared to play. Southgate is reportedly considering a tactical shift to a three-man defense to address the team’s attacking issues.

Switzerland, on the other hand, comes into the match with high confidence after defeating the reigning champions Italy. Ruben Vargas and Remo Freuler were key contributors in their victory. The Swiss team has been in excellent form, remaining unbeaten in their last eight matches across all competitions.

Silvan Widmer returns from suspension, giving Yakin a selection dilemma on the right flank, with Dan Ndoye also performing well. The Swiss squad is otherwise fully fit, providing Yakin with a range of options as they aim to reach the semi-finals for the first time in their history.

Prediction: 2-1 win for England
