Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns have triggered the option to extend former Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper Denis Onyango’s contract.
Onyango’s most recent contract expired on June 30, 2024 and the Brazilians have decided to continue with the veteran custodian for a further year.
The above development is only pending a confirmation from the club which is expected imminently.
South Africa is arguably Onyango’s second home because he has plied his trade there since 2006 and it is projected that he will stay at Loftus Versfeld Stadium even after retirement.
The 39-year-old is the most successful and decorated player in the history of the PSL with 11 titles.
He has won eight of them with his current club Sundowns whilst the three came while he was playing for SuperSport United.
The 2016 African Player of the Year based in Africa also has a CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup, three Nedbank Cups, two Telkom Knockout, and an MTN 8 to his name.
He will continue playing as second fiddle to Bafana Bafana skipper Ronwen Williams.
