The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) convened a preparation meeting for the upcoming 2024 FUFA Super 8 tournament at the FUFA Complex in Mengo, Kampala on Tuesday July 9.
The meeting was attended by CEOs from various clubs set to participate in the tournament.
Key items on the agenda included the tournament draws, player licensing, the potential for a doubleheader at Namboole, gate collection strategies, and prize money allocation. The discussions aimed to ensure a smooth and well-organized tournament.
BUL will enter the tournament as the defending champions, having secured a dramatic victory over URA in the final last year.
The match, held at the MTN-Lugogo Stadium, saw BUL triumph 3-2 on penalties after a thrilling contest.
The FUFA Super 8 tournament, which serves as a precursor to the Startimes Uganda Premier League, features the top eight teams from the recently concluded Uganda Premier League season.
This format marks a shift from previous editions, which included the top six teams from the Uganda Premier League and the top two from the FUFA Big League.
Each team in the tournament is guaranteed to play at least three matches. Winners from the quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals, while the losing teams will compete in two classification games, ensuring ample playtime for all participants.
According to the Uganda Premier League standings from last season, the top eight teams participating in this year’s FUFA Super 8 are SC Villa, Vipers, BUL, Kitara, KCCA, NEC, Maroons, and URA.
