Stanbic Uganda Cup champions Kitara FC have this morning departed for Ethiopia with a 19-man squad as they gear up for their upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The squad, led by Head Coach Brian Ssenyondo, will face Ethiopian club Mechal Sports Club in a friendly match on Sunday, July 14th, as part of the hosts’ 80th-anniversary celebrations.
The travelling squad features a strong lineup, including new signings David Ndihabwe, formerly of Maroons, and last season’s SUPL Defender of the Season Ronald Otti, who they signed from BUL.
However, recent acquisitions Titus Ssematimba who was unveiled on Tuesday and Marvin Nyanzi who was unveiled earlier today from Wakiso Giants have not been included in the squad for the Ethiopia trip.
The squad is composed of 2 goalkeepers, 6 defenders, 6 midfielders, and 5 forwards.
The goalkeepers are Chris Kusiima and Jamil Kiyimba, while the defensive line is bolstered by Captain Maxwell Owachigiu, Benjamin Nyakojo, Ronald Otti, Arthur Kiggundu, Jasper Aheebwa, and David Kasaija.
In the midfield, Kitara will rely on the talents of Erick Muber, Paddy Muhumuza, David Ndihabwe, Solomon Okwalinga, Frank Tumwesigye, and Frank Yiga.
The forward line features Kabon Living, Jude Ssemugabi, Brian Aheebwa, Denis Omedi, and George Senkaba.
Accompanying the squad are Head Coach Brian Ssenyondo, Assistant Coaches David Bbale and Issa Serwanja, Team Doctor Isaac Nicholas Ssengoba, CEO Joshua Atugonza, and Media Officer Geoffrey Tumwesigye.
Yesterday, Kitara President Deo Kasozi, while speaking to NBS Sport expressed confidence in his team’s preparedness for their upcoming CAF Confederations Cup.
“We’re extremely prepared, and tomorrow (today), we’re setting off to go to Ethiopia for a test game, then when we return, we shall also be able to have some practice games in preparation for the Confederation Cup.” He said.
The friendly against Mechal Sports Club will provide Kitara with a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and assess their squad’s readiness for the upcoming continental campaign.
