As SC Villa takes part in the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship in Tanzania, there is a notable change in shirt numbers for star player Patrick Kakande.
During the 2022/23 season which was his breakthrough campaign, Kakande wore shirt number 25 for the Jogoos and later switched to shirt number 29 last season.
However, the youngster has since taken over the vacant shirt number 10 in which he scored his first goal when he converted from 12 yards in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions’ 3-1 victory over Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars on Friday.
In donning shirt number 10, Kakande succeeded striker Umar Lutalo who departed the club at the expiry of his contract in June.
Before Lutalo, the iconic shirt number 10 was worn by Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder Travis Jamal Mutyaba who now plays for Egyptian giants Zamalek SC.
After inspiring Villa to their first league title since 2004, Kakande was named both the Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season at the Pilsner Uganda Premier League Awards Ceremony.
He was also voted the Players’ Player of the Season and was selected in the UPL Best XI.
