StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa and Rwanda Premier League champions APR settled for a one-all stalemate in the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Club Championship at the Azam Complex in Tanzania on Monday.
Villa’s newly signed Najib Yiga cancelled out Olivier Dushimana’s goal and that was his second of the tournament having scored the opener in a 3-1 victory over Singida Black Stars on Friday.
A draw ensured that the UPL record champions finished second in Group C with five points, two adrift of Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga’s APR who topped the group with seven points.
Lwanga was playing against his former paymasters having featured for the Jogoos between 2015 and 2017 and also had a spell as the club’s captain.
APR confirmed their slot in the semifinals whilst Villa’s tournament is on the line and they will be hoping that results in Group A and B go their way.
Dusan Stojanovic’s charges can only reach the semifinals as the best loser.
