The longstanding Kalerwe-Bwaise boxing rivalry was officially settled by Frank Mawanda of Kololo Boxing Club, based in Kalerwe, who secured a victory against 2022 Africa’s bronze medalist Jonah Kyobe of Lukanga Boxing Club in Bwaise in the Featherweight category.
In Week 5 of the Uganda Boxing Champions League season three, held at the NCS Arena in Lugogo over the weekend, Kololo Boxing Club’s Frank Mawanda edged out Kyobe Jonathan of Lukanga Boxing Club with a 4:1 split decision in the Featherweight Elite 57kg category.
This win not only solidified Mawanda’s position in the league but also brought an end to the intense rivalry between the two clubs.
In other bouts, Semugaire John of Katabi Boxing Club won by RSC-Disqualification in Round 5 against Sembatya Arafat from Mutajjazi in the Elite 75kg category. Semugaire’s victory came after a series of contentious exchanges, leading to Arafat’s disqualification.
Nsubuga Samuel of Kalinabiri Boxing Club secured a 4:1 split decision victory against Nkusa Allawi of Kyengera Boxing Club in the Youth 51kg category. Nsubuga’s tactical prowess and stamina were on full display, earning him the win.
Ayebare Charles of Gideon Boxing Club achieved a 5:0 unanimous decision against Sentamu Yusuf of Zebra Boxing Club in the Junior 66kg category. Ayebare’s dominant performance throughout the bout left no doubt about his superior skill and strategy.
