Entebbe Club to Host Uganda Golf Open 2024 Series

The prestigious Uganda Golf Open series is set to take place from August 22nd to September 7th, 2024, at the par-71 Entebbe Club, a venue with a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1901.

This announcement follows the conclusion of the 2023 edition and was confirmed over the weekend by Dr. Were, the new president of the Uganda Golf Union.

The 2023 Uganda Golf Open featured a variety of events, including competitions for juniors, ladies, seniors, amateurs, Pro-Am participants, and professionals.

Notable winners from last year include Peace Kabasweka in the ladies’ open, Godfrey Nsubuga in the amateurs’ category, and Kenya’s Dismas Indiza, who was recognized as the best professional golfer.

Entebbe Club last hosted the Open in 2021, where John Muchiri (seniors), Martha Babirye (ladies), Joseph Cwinya-ai (amateurs), and Jastas “Pastor” Madoya (professionals) emerged victorious. The 2022 edition was held at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo, and the 2023 edition took place at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.

First played in 1932, the Uganda Golf Open has grown significantly in stature and popularity, becoming a crucial part of the Uganda Amateur Golf Ranking system.

Dr. Were highlighted the importance of hosting the event in August, citing better weather conditions: “We thought and still believe that the weather in August will be better. The rains in October disrupted many activities during the Open at UGC, so as we concluded last year’s Open, we decided to host the Uganda Open in August to ensure more favorable weather conditions.”

As the Junior’s Open approaches, set to begin on August 17th, there is a palpable sense of anticipation.

Dr. Were praised Entebbe Club’s preparations for the event saying, “I must commend Entebbe Club for the preparations they have made regarding the course and the amenities required to host an event of this magnitude. The course is taking shape nicely, and I’m confident that the turnout will be excellent this year.”
